AKC TRACKING

Tracking, one record for every track

Training tracks, test results and titles, from the first TD to Champion Tracker.

What Tracking is

In AKC tracking a dog follows the scent of a person who walked the track earlier and finds the articles they left on it. Tests are not competitions. A dog passes by following the track and finding the articles, with no time limit as long as it is working.

The TD track is 440 to 500 yards and aged half an hour to two hours. The TDX is older, three to five hours, longer at 800 to 1,000 yards, and crossed by other people’s tracks. VST is 600 to 800 yards, aged three to five hours, with a third to two thirds of it on surfaces without vegetation, like streets. TDU is 400 to 500 yards in an urban setting, aged half an hour to two hours. A dog that earns TD or TDU, plus TDX and VST, becomes a Champion Tracker, CT.

What Title keeps for your Tracking dog

Every training track

Log a track against the sport with its length of session, the dog’s focus and energy, where you laid it and what went well or poorly.

Every test on the timeline

Record the test, the date, the judges and the result. It sits on the dog’s timeline beside the tracks that got it there.

AKC titles by code and name

TD, TDU, TDX, VST and CT are recognised by code and by name, typed in or read from an AKC My Dog Summary PDF.

Notes that carry forward

The next goal from the last track is waiting for you at the start of the next one, so progress is something you can read back.
