What Fast CAT is
Fast CAT is the AKC’s timed 100-yard dash. One dog at a time chases a lure down a straight lane, and the run is timed to the hundredth of a second.
The time becomes miles per hour, and the miles per hour become points, multiplied by a handicap set by the dog’s height at the withers: 1.0 for 18 inches and over, 1.5 from 12 up to 18, and 2.0 under 12. Points add up for life. BCAT comes at 150, DCAT at 500, FCAT at 1,000, and every further 500 adds another FCAT number.
What Title keeps for your Fast CAT dog
Every run, saved to the dog
Enter the time and the handicap. Title works out the MPH and the points and keeps the run on the dog’s record, so the season adds itself up.
Progress that starts where your dog is
A dog that already holds DCAT starts its progress at 500 points, not at zero. The calculator reads the titles on the record before it asks you anything.
Runs to the next title
At the speed your dog actually runs, how many more runs to the next title, rounded up because most of a run is not a run.
The free calculator, no account
The same arithmetic, open to anybody, for the handler standing at a trial with a time in hand.
